![]() It is a load of crap, and /u/DBKilladelph is 100% correct, if you have any kind of proper maintenance you wouldn't need this. I used to work for a company that did this as a third party for Buildings. The basic 'high value sensor alarm' is not the point of this system at all, and if that's how they're marketing it they're morons. What does that mean in terms of maintenance? Maybe you need to insulate that motor better? But it's stuff like that this kind of system should show you. Imagine seeing a high motor amps alarm every time the outside humidity went above 50%, and seeing that correlation. Basically lets just say that computers are far better at connecting the dots on a large scale than we as people ever were. C P Grey has an interesting video on how machines learn, but that doesn't really explain how that would work in a plant. Machine learning is very interesting, and it can pick up correlations that an engineer wouldn't. Maybe it's convenient to have software notice correlations between variables and maintenance outcomes.? But in my experience, the engineers would find most correlations themselves within the first week of operation, and set up needed alarms. Their promo videos talk about predictive maintenance, where the software notices a high value for a sensor, and sends a maintenance alarm for associated equipment.
